Robo-Jock is one of the most complex specialist projects that 5 Star have produced.  To coincide with PLASA, Live at Earls Court in September 2007, 5 Star decided that the centrepiece at the show should be a product that demonstrated the company’s design and manufacturing facilities and a host of case options.

This system of concept cases, comprising the main centrepiece Robot display, Support Plinth, Controller Rack and Teach-Pendant briefcase relied heavily on Solid Edge 3D software. Once the initial brief was decided upon, the design team at 5 Star worked closely with the Production departments and ABB Robotics UK, who were supplying the IRB-140 Robot. Pioneer GB were also a key partner with the Robo-Jock project, supplying top of the range VJ equipment, namely DVJ-1000 DVD players, DJM-800 mixer and SVW-1 video switcher.

At the heart of Robo-Jock is the ABB IRB-140 six axis high resolution robot. ABB is a world leader in Industrial Robotics and supplies many of the systems found in applications from Automotive, Medical, Aerospace and Engineering. This is the smallest robot produced by ABB and has a lifting capacity of 5kg.  Not a problem here, as it was to be manipulating a single DVD disc !

The case incorporated many available options. These included clear acrylic vision panels, access hatches, CNC machined console, flush mounted TFT displays and internal lighting. All of these options are available in most case projects.
